The brand Autêntico was created in 1998 by Sumatra Cafés Brasil. Sumatra is nowadays a 25 years-old company, one of the main coffee exporters in Brazil, delivering to big roasters as Kraft, Folgers and Nestlé, amongst others in the American and European markets, with a shipping average of 40.000 bags per month.

The original intention for Autêntico was to work the brand as a coffee roaster and wholesaler of high quality products for Brazil as ground coffee and roasted beans for espresso.

Always watching the crescent demand for specialty coffee in the market, in 2002 Sumatra decided to start cropping its own coffee choosing farms located in key areas for coffee production, well located in altitude just as proper weather conditions and well trained personal.

Sumatra also owns a warehouse company named Mantiqueira Armazéns Gerais, with unities in Poços de Caldas, Manhuaçu, Espírito Santo do Pinhal and Socorro. The total storing capacity of these warehouses is about 500.000 bags of 60 kilos and able to process 3.000 bags per day using high technology. The warehouses of Mantiqueira Armazéns Gerais are prepared and available for storing and processing the Autêntico coffees.

Aiming for the highest quality on its products and services the whole group Sumatra was certified by ISO 9001:2000 in 2004, including the procedures regarding the process of coffee in the farms.

With all this structure, from the crop to the cup, Sumatra became a pioneer into traceability of coffee in Brazil. Producing sustainable and traceable coffee for Autêntico.
